Stockholms international film festival
Support Skandia fundraising instagram campaign
Project Manager
Background
In November 2023, 100 years old Skandia Cinema designed by one of the most renowned Swedish architects, Gunnar Asplund, faced a threat of permanent closure to the public due to lack of tenancy by the cinema industry. Enthused by the actor/director Ethan Hawke and his daughter Maya Hawke, who opened for Stockholm Film Festival that year, and with its long standing association with Skandia, SIFF embarked on a crowdfunding campaign to save Skandia Cinema.
Concept
With a group of fellow Content Developer at Hyper Island, we joined SIFF to create a instagram campaign spreading over 4 weeks, going through 4 different historic eras of the cinema and recent ties with the SIFF, with our key copy "Don't let Skandia be lost in history. Together we can keep history alive". And we did. In order to recreate the 4 eras starting in 1920s, we dug deep into the internet looking for stories, anecdotes related to the cinema and later to SIFF as we were given access to image and video archives of 25 years of the festival..
result
SIFF reached over 2 million kronor in crowd funding in January 2024, necessary for restoration and reopening of the historic cinema and taken over the management of Skandia. It still stands and creating magical cinematic moments for the Swedish cinema lovers. We were really proud to be able to contribute to that. The long standing supporters of the SIFF and the cinema such as Dragomir Mrsic joined in to re-share our posts and we received a recognition for our storytelling from the co-founder and festival director, Git Scheynius.
reFlection & learning
This was such a fun project that is close to my heart as I love the cinema and to be part of a movement and be able to contribute something meaningful. I initiated and led the project, responsible for team and stakeholder management & delivery, but also content direction, research, and some copy writing. Really proud of everything we produced, concept, copy, graphic, video and interesting trivia/stories we managed to find.
