Hello I’m Nakako

Born in Tokyo, raised in London, and now based in Stockholm, I’ve spent my life moving between cultures, languages, and perspectives. I recently discovered there’s a term for people like me - third culture kids - and I’ve embraced it fully. This background has shaped how I see the world: drawn to the in-between spaces where perspectives meet, stories form, and meaning shifts.

Over the past two decades, I’ve worked across media, tech, and cultural sectors, leading projects, building teams, and making ideas happen. I began my career in media, and cultural space in Japan and the UK, producing work that required translating not just language, but context and intent.

I hold an MA in Visual Anthropology, which has shaped my self-awareness as a creator and storyteller, particularly in how I approach representation, audience context, and the responsibility that comes with shaping stories on behalf of others.

At Spotify, I worked within Global Content Operations, where I held responsibility for coordinating complex, cross-functional workflows between product, engineering, editorial, and external content partners. The role sat at the intersection of content and technology, requiring strategic decision-making, stakeholder alignment, and operational design to support content at global scale. This work contributed to the growth and reliability of Spotify’s podcast platform during a period of rapid expansion.

I later moved into a leadership role within Product Operations, working closely with senior leadership in a 200+ person tech organisation to shape strategy, team culture, and ways of working. In this role, I supported long-term planning, facilitated alignment across teams, and helped build the structures that allowed people and ideas to move effectively at scale.

Community is a core value for me. I’ve led and supported initiatives across women’s networks and global operations teams, fostering collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and belonging.

A shift came when I returned to study at Hyper Island, refocusing from operations to communication, culture, and storytelling. Since then, I’ve worked with organizations at the intersection of social impact and culture, helping them communicate with clarity, purpose, and empathy. I care deeply about representation, who tells the story, and how narratives can shift perspectives.

Outside of work, I’m a curious traveler, lifelong learner, and creative at heart. I find joy in discovering new ideas, often from the back of a scooter. I love nature, islands, Yayoi Kusama, and cinema. Lately, I’ve found calm in woodcut printmaking while listening to my favourite albums or podcasts. I often find myself exploring ideas through writing and visual projects.
